Brian Matthew - RIP
|
BBC Radio 2 broadcaster Brian Matthew is critically ill, the station has clarified after initially announcing his death. The BBC had originally been informed by a member of Matthew's family that he had died.
A spokesman for the corporation said: "We were informed by close family and friends that Brian had passed away in the night.
"They have since been in contact to say that he remains critically ill." The statement added: "We will update with more information when we have it. Our thoughts remain with his family at this very difficult time."

I'm imaging some family member finding him dead and covering him with a bed sheet. Then going out to the phone and calling the BBC. 10 minutes later they go back in and see the bed sheet rising and falling with his breathing and thinking oh fuck!

Somewhere out there on the internet is some grainy, crackly, b&w footage of the night in Cardiff when Mick Avory threw his cymbal at Dave Davies and hit him in the head with it. Dave went down pole-axed and Mick, genuinely thinking he had killed him, can be seen emerging from behind his drum-kit jumping off the stage into the crowd and off into the Cardiff night.

Ahh sorry, yes. I loved Saturday Club when I was a nipper. No idea how he did it, every week the Beatles, Stones, Kinks, Animals, Small Faces or Who on live and miraculously sober before Saturday breakfast.

Yes, I loved it - Every Saturday morning for what seems like forever, but probably isn't.
The percentage of crap he played was worth enduring for the gems and even the crap was often really interesting crap.
